Prepare to Buy a Wool Rug after Reading This

Luxurious

You can’t deny that a wool rug is luxurious. If you place a wool rug over a smooth surface flooring, you are giving yourself different textures to feel when walking, ing and no doubt, the wool rug will feel much better compared to a cold, smooth flooring. If you are wanting to fill out a space, but not take away any foot traffic, using a wool rug can be a very beneficial way to keep the room filled out and stylish. Depending on the pile height and the yarn density, these luxurious rugs can add to the room looking sophisticated and classy.  You’ll be able to find many designer rugs that are constructed from wool.

Eco-friendly

Wool is sheared from sheep which are sustainably grown materials and are not man-made from petroleum or crude oil. They aren’t as widely available as synthetics, because of the growth time needed before the sheep coats are sheared, but this creates a very strong and robust fiber to use without any damage done to the environment. They are naturally biodegradable, so they won’t deteriorate like plastics do, but they won’t biodegrade too soon that they can’t be used as a flooring fixture.

Hypoallergenic

Wool is effective against dust mites. These mites have been known to cause severe allergies and lead to respiratory issues in some cases. It makes it imperfect to have these critters around people who suffer from any sort of respiratory issues – people with asthma and lung complications would be better off having materials that don’t accommodate dust mites and keep them within the fibers. Wool is one of them and can be very effective in awarding them away by keeping in moisture – which makes it a dry environment for bacteria and fungus growth. Dust mites can’t survive in that and wouldn’t be able to survive.

Wool fibers are natural fibers and are less likely to cause skin problems and allergies compared to synthetics. When people say that they are allergic to wool, it isn’t the wool that they are allergic to but rather the lanolin, an oil compound that is found inside the wool. This can be washed out and kept away from wool products, making them perfect to use by everyone. The irritant won’t be there to cause problems and people can still use the wool with no worries. Having this property is a blessing compared to other fibers as this isn’t preventable in all cases and so it is better to use a wool rug for sensitive skin types.

Low maintenance

They are very low maintenance as they are resistant to changes to their surroundings and can be easily cleaned without needing any special equipment. This means that wool rugs, such as large floor rugs and hallway rug runners can be used in very high traffic areas, like hallways, without a worry about how they will be needed to clean after the heavy foot traffic. Wool fibers are easy to clean and are able to keep themselves clean from bacteria and mold and fungus. It is unlikely that a wool carpet will have a funny smell or dirt spec that can’t be easily cleaned. They can be maintained easily through regular vacuuming. It should be noted that with any perfectly manufactured carpet, there will be some discoloration along with the areas that have been used or walked on. This can be avoided by purchasing a patterned rug that can camouflage the discoloration and blend it into the pattern.

Flame resistant

Wool is a natural flame retardant meaning that it doesn’t ignite easily. If it were to be ignited, it would burn with a self-extinguished flame that forms dissipating ash residue. This separates it from synthetics and man-made polymers that form hard, molten beads. If in any scenario, maybe with a birthday candle or regular candles, you won’t have to worry about the rug catching on fire. It is not easily flammable and the situation can easily be managed by removing the flame without the rug being damaged or any other damage to the surroundings.

Durable

If the rug is placed near a window that allows sunlight through, there is a chance that the wool rug will warm up. This is not a concern as nothing will happen. However, leaving the rug in front of the sun for too long, won't cause it to burst into flames, but might cause discoloration with the dye. It can cause a slight bleaching effect and cause the rug to appear fainter and paler than it actually is. To avoid this, change the rugs’ location every once in a while. The construction of the rug does factor into its longevity, a shorter, yarn-dense rug is more likely to withstand foot traffic compared to a rug that has a higher pile height and lowers yarn density; something like a, white shaggy rug. With wool being a natural material, it means that wool has high wear and tear resistance that increases the longevity of the material and the product. It will last many years before it displays any signs of wear and tear – making it suitable for high traffic areas like hallways. This is if the wool rug is regularly maintained and cleaned through repeated vacuuming and occasional heavy cleaning. The fibers are capable of bouncing back to their original form when they have been stretched and it is unlikely that they will lose their shape, becoming smaller, if they are washed and cleaned using high amounts of water and detergent. However, even though the material can withstand intensive washing, the dye and the colors might not. Regardless of how good the dying process is, if it is continuously scrubbed and cleaned, the dye might be forced to come out, leaving behind pale, grey colors.
